PHP/MySQL

Question: How can I create and manage MySQL databases?

Answer: Via the MySQL icon in your control panel, you may add/remove databases and database users. Within this section you will find a link to PHPMyAdmin where you can directly manage databases, tables and queries

Question: How can I tell which PHP extensions have been installed?

Answer: You can create a simple php script with the following contents:
Upload this to your server and the output page will provide all necessary information.

Question: I am getting an error: “Client cannot support authentication protocol”

Answer: MySQL made a significant change to the password hashing algorithm from 4.0 to 4.1 and PHP 4.x has not caught up with an updated mysql client library. We have made alterations to our servers to limit the amount this error occurs, however, if you come across this please issue a support ticket and we will resolve it immediately.

Question: My application requires a PHP extension that is not installed, what should I do?

Answer: Please put in a support request with the extensions name and an administrator will recompile php to support this extension.

Question: How do I utilize PHP5 on your network?

Answer: Our servers run PHP4 and PHP5 concurrently, in order to utilize the PHP5 engine you will need to use the .php5 extension with your scripts. Standard .php extensions will only be parsed by the PHP4 engine.

Perl/CGI

Question: My scripts return a 500 error and will not execute.

Answer: Make sure you have set the permissions on your cgi script to 755. You will not be able to run scripts at 777 on our servers. Also make sure you have uploaded your script in ascii format with your ftp client.

Question: What is the path to perl?

Answer: /usr/bin/perl

Question: I need SSH access to work on my scripts, how do I enable it?

Answer: Dec2g Media Hosting administrators must enable shell access for you on a per domain level. A support ticket is the quickest way to getting shell enabled.


Question: Will my CGI scripts execute from any location?

Answer: Yes, however, we provide a cgi-bin in your home directory which you may find convenient for keeping your scripts in one location.

Question: Which operating system are you running?

Answer: All of our servers utilize Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Question: Can I run ASP or JSP files on your servers?

Answer: No, we currently only support PHP.

Question: What is Fantastico? How do I access it?

Answer: Fantastico is an application which eases the installation of dozens of the most popular PHP/MySQL based applications from content management systems to forums.

You can access Fantastico from the Fantastico icon in your control panel.

Question: What is the path to ImageMagick?

Answer: The most common ImageMagick utility is convert, which is typically located at: /usr/bin/convert

If you have difficulties with this path, please try: /usr/local/bin/convert. If all else fails, please issue a support ticket and request assistance with the ImageMagick installation on the server you reside.

Question: How do I use subversion?

Answer: Subversion is an excellent replacement to CVS, and is fully available via your shell account. By logging in via shell, you can call svn or svnadmin to utilize the services. svn --help will provide a detailed list of options you can use.

Question: Do you support WebDAV?

Answer: Yes, we fully support it, and must enable it on a per account/folder basis. Simply submit a support ticket with the account/folder you would like it enabled for and we will get it taken care of.

Answer: Yes, we will assist you in installing scripts and applications. You will find most of the common applications to be installable from your control panel, via the fantastico link.

Question: How long will it take to get support?

Answer: Support response times vary, depending on the magnitude of the request. We guarantee a response to a ticket within 24 hours of submission
